Star Sprinter Secures Gold Medal in Final Leg
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP) - Former Gators swimmer Caeleb Dressel led the United States to victory in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay on Wednesday, securing a gold medal after a long layoff.
Dressel, who swam the final leg of the race, held off challenges from Italy and Australia to secure the gold for the United States. The U.S. team finished with a time of 3:09.34, just ahead of Italy in second place (3:09.50) and Australia in third (3:10.13).
Dressel's victory comes after a difficult year that saw him take a break from swimming following the Tokyo Olympics. He returned to competition earlier this year but had not yet regained his previous form until Wednesday's race.
