In a thrilling conclusion to the 128th Boston Marathon, Kenya's Hellen Obiri made a late surge to defend her women's title. With just one mile remaining, Obiri pulled away from her lone remaining challenger, compatriot Hellen Onsando.
Obiri, born December 13, 1989, is a legendary middle- and long-distance runner. She is the only woman to have won world titles in both indoor and outdoor track events.
This victory marks Obiri's second consecutive Boston Marathon triumph, with a time of 2:22:37. Despite a close race, the two-time Olympic silver medalist ultimately prevailed.
